you do not run as a business the chances are you

To know where you need to go in any situation,
you’ll need a map. And the map must be
up-to-date and accurately reflect the current
landscape. To understand where you have to go,
you must first be able to locate where you are
on that map. To do that in business you must
answer five critical questions. What business
are you really in? Why did you get into business
in the first place? Who are you and what is your
core talent? Where are you in the lifecycle of
the industry, and the economy, and as a business
owner? And finally, what’s next? Today we will
break ground on the path to your compelling
future.
The importance of Knowing exactly where your
business really is — not where you think it is.
The competitive advantages that put you in
business and made you successful in the first
place are almost certainly.

Core learnings
1. The pre-induction talk is a key element of
hypnosis to clarify the client’s beliefs, goals
and expectations.
2. Potential misconceptions about hypnosis are
cleared up in the pre-talk to increase
suggestibility of the client.
3. The information obtained from the pre-talk is
valuable in formulating an effective induction
script and suggestions.
4. There are many induction methods of which
rapid induction, pace and lead, physical
posturing, sensory overload, stealth,
visualization and eye fixation techniques are
some of the most commonly used.
5. All induction methods aim to distract the
conscious mind to gain direct access to the
subconscious.
6. In ideomotor signalling, the hypnotist uses
physical movements to communicate with the
client’s subconscious.
7. Ideomotor signalling is useful to get a
commitment from the cli-ent’s subconscious or
access information that is not available to the
conscious mind.
8. In hypnosis, amnesia is used in two ways,
namely to facilitate amnesia so that the
subconscious stays in control of the
infor-mation, or to explore experiences hidden
to the conscious mind to reframe the information
and perceptions positively.
9. The age regression technique is used to take
the client back to an initial sensitizing event
to achieve catharsis and remove its influence
from the client’s life.

Core learnings
1. The placebo effect works through an
expectancy that creates powerful beliefs in the
mind, often with physiological effects.
2. Two main components of
hypnosis—hypnotizability and management of
expectancy—are placebo and nonplacebo
respectively.
3. Placebo effects are notoriously
unquantifiable and unpredictable.
4. The hypnotist utilizes the placebo effect by
managing response expectancies by introducing
suggestions; if the client is in a suggestive
state, hypnosis is far more effective than
placebo alone.
5. The combination of the presence of the four
types of brain waves—Beta, Alpha, Theta, and
Delta—determine the state of mind that a person
experiences.
6. With primarily Beta waves, a person is awake
and alert and focused on a mental activity; the
conscious mind is in full control.
7. If Alpha waves are dominant, the mind is
relaxed but still alert with a passive
awareness; it is in a transition between the
conscious and subconscious mind.
8. With Theta waves present, the subconscious
mind is dominant with the critical faculty
bypassed; the state of tranquility, deep
relaxation promotes suggestibility, which is
when hypnosis is most effective.
9. With mostly Delta waves, a person is in a
deep sleep state, regenerating the body; the
person is unconscious with no access to the
subconscious or conscious mind.
10. The hypnotist employs techniques tailor-made
for the client to move the client from an alert
state to deeper states of relaxation to enable
direct access to the subconscious mind for
maximum suggestibility

Core learnings
1. Scientific research has proven that hypnosis
is an effective supplement to cognitive
behavioural psychotherapy approaches—more
clients improve than those only receiving
therapy.
2. Hypnotherapy has a wide range of successful
clinical treatment applications, including
weight loss management, smoking cessation,
addiction control, trauma and pain management,
and treating anxieties and phobias.
3. A traumatized client can be returned to the
roots of their symptoms, where the event is
positively reframed, potentially eliminating all
the effects of the event from the subconscious.
4. Pain can be managed using hypnosis by
distracting or dissociating the conscious mind
from the experience, or by altering the
perception of the suffering component related to
the pain.
5. Smoking cessation and addiction management
are made possible by relaxation, victory, anger
and cost hypnotic suggestions and imagery.
6. The achievement of weight loss also utilizes
hypnotic suggestions and imagery to
subconsciously motivate adherence to a
well-balanced, healthy lifestyle.
7. Anxieties, fears and phobias often originate
from a past event, which is explored and
reframed in the hypnotic state to change the
perception thereof and eliminate its negative
effects.

Core learnings
1. Thoughts and feelings have a profound
influence on our behaviour, often outside our
awareness, and they are dictated by our core
beliefs.
2. Hypnosis techniques can be used to alter core
beliefs, which can have a sustained desirable
effect on behaviour.
3. Expectations can be managed through
subconscious suggestion to release hidden and
untapped abilities.
4. The principles of verbal psychology are
applied in hypnotic induction using direct and
indirect verbal suggestions.
5. Positive suggestions are repeated in a slow,
deep, and monotonous tone with commanding
overtones to induce relaxation.
6. All hypnotic messages must be clear, simple,
decisive, and unambiguous.
7. The subconscious is the most receptive to
direct suggestions when the conscious mind is
distracted by another task.
8. “Yes set” questions lead the client to agree
with a suggestion, while “reverse yes set”
questions are designed to make the client feel
valued, appreciated, and relaxed.
9. Body language and tone of voice is more
important to convey a message accurately than
its verbal contents.
10. For a message to be effective, all aspects
of the body language, delivery, and appearance
must be consistent with the spoken word and
exude confidence and control.
